26

Good morning phone.

Good morning Nashville.

Good morning Cafe Bustelo.

Good morning God.

This morning I turned 26.

It’s funny how it doesn’t seem quite as old as 25, even though 25 was exactly a year ago. Something about crossing the deep line in the sand that cuts between 24 and 25 makes the short hop from 25 to 26 bearable.

It doesn’t make finding health insurance any easier, but no matter. All in due time. I guess I’ll make sure I don’t add getting sick to my google calendar…

In all seriousness I think the sheer amount of new experiences I had in the last year make turning 26 seem worthwhile.

A year ago I was in Italy deciding what exactly I was going to do with my life, and taking long walks down to the piazza listening for God to speak through the breeze and whisper literally anything.

And he didn’t.

He let me spend all the time in the world with him and gave very little direction on what was next until the day I got home in Baton Rouge. The end of one of my countless novenas to St. Therese.

A pivotal conversation with a new friend that set me in motion towards Nashville for good.

And now here I am, sitting in front of my computer in my little room where I wrote half the songs coming out on my new EP this fall. Where even in the last year my sound has developed intensely and become something I’m excited to share.

Sipping coffee, thinking of days gone by when I was scared of what might happen today, only to find that He gave it to me and gave it in full like He always does.

I sat on the back porch this morning, prayed my liturgy of the hours, and asked God for wisdom, like Solomon. Wisdom to know his movements in my heart and the courage to follow them.

Wisdom.

Wisdom, I know, is what will separate a good thing from a great thing going into my thirties. Wisdom will dictate what deserves my full time and attention. And wisdom will have me always putting Him first.

This year into 27 I intend to become a saint. Not figuratively speaking. Fully alive, fully dedicated to Him and His will only. And fully dependent on Him.

Happy 26 to me. I’m off to work downtown but inside I’m counting my blessings. And it turns out I can’t.

Thanks for reading.
